Tinnitus Retraining Therapy
Many
people worldwide suffer from tinnitus. That annoying, constant sound
ringing in your ears. People with this condition are so discouraged
because they feel it will never go away. In most cases, tinnitus is not
curable, however, there is a tinnitus treatment you can use called
tinnitus retraining therapy.
This therapy treatment
was created by Dr. Pawel Jastreboff in the 1980's and is simply the
process of training your brain to ignore the sound of tinnitus. After
using this therapy treatment, people were amazed that these annoying
sounds no longer had an effect on them.
The process, however, can take a while to see improvement. Generally, a
patient needs to go through this tinnitus retraining therapy for at
least 12 to 18 months before they see any significant improvement. The
process involves using a combination of both retraining and sound
enrichment. The patient first learns the causes of tinnitus, because
having knowledge about this condition helps with the way they react to
noises. After awhile, what once use to be a strong reaction to a
certain noise is reduced to either a mild reaction or none at all.
Then, they begin the process of retraining their brain to block out or
ignore the constant noise of tinnitus.
There are many people who live near airports or train stations. Just
about every hour in the day there is the loud noise of an airplane
taking off or coming in for a landing. Just the same, the loud noise of
a passing train goes by frequently during the day and night. How do
these people live normal lives with so much noise going on around them
all the time? It's quite simple actually. They have become so use to
hearing these sounds everyday that they no longer hear them. They have
actually trained their brains to block the noises out. This is the same
way tinnitus retraining therapy works.
There are many causes of the dreadful tinnitus. One of the most common
causes is the use of devices such as the iPod and other mp3 players.
These devices allow people to listen to loud music which plays directly
into their ears. After awhile this can cause hearing problems and other
issues with the ears such as tinnitus. Other causes of this condition
are taking certain drugs which include:
- Aspirin
- Salicylate
- Mercury
- Quinine
- Antibiotics
- Antidepressants
After using such drugs for a long period of time, a person can be
affected with this condition and a tinnitus treatment is needed. Other
reasons for tinnitus can include: age due to physiological changes and
loss of nerve fibers in the body, muscle spasms in the head or neck and
ear related conditions.
Once affected with this condition a person can get really frustrated
because it actually interferes with their lives unless they learn how
to live with it through the use of tinnitus retraining therapy. There
is no need to get distracted by constant buzzing or ringing noises in
your ear. You can train your brain to ignore these sounds so that you
can go on to enjoy your life again.
